Biography

Jaylene Johnson creates music that makes you "listen more closely" (CD Baby), putting her own quirky-yet-insightful slant on life, love and matters of faith. Her songs have been heard on shows like Pretty Little Liars, Degrassi: The Next Generation and So You Think You Can Dance, and have been released locally and internationally by artists including JJ Heller, Brian Doerksen and Jordan St. Cyr.. While Jaylene's current work leans into mentoring and cowriting with and for artists, four LP releases  and several singles showcase her “angelic pipes” (Wpg Sun) and soul-nourishing folk/pop songs. These include the critically acclaimed and Juno-nominated album, Potter & Clay  (2016); Happiness (2010); Finding Beautiful (2004); Not Forgotten (2000). In addition to her Juno Award nomination, Jaylene has received three Western Canadian Music Award nominations, and received and been nominated for multiple Covenant Awards, including Canadian Christian Song of the Year. She was also named a winner for her songs "Fallin'"  and "This Little Light" by the International Songwriting Competition. Jaylene serves as Vice President of GMA Canada's Advisory Board; as a Juno selection committee co-chair; and as a member-at-large for the Canadian Christian Communicators Association.
