Biography

Inspiration is as essential to the human condition as water, air, and love. We use it to build, connect, and lift ourselves up from hard times. Oftentimes it comes from music. Healing, binding, joyous music, music to bring us all together and one step closer to God. And that is exactly singer-songwriter-worship leader Brad Guldemond’s stock in trade.

Inspired by Christian singer-songwriters Jeremy Riddle, Will Reagan, and Chris Rice, Canada's own Brad Guldemond is infusing worship music with his personal and personable brand of time-tested spirituality, performing passionate, piano-driven songs with a tremendous voice fueled by his faith, to share the heart of God through song. The singer-songwriter behind the 2013 album Overwhelm Us (winner of 2013 Covenant Award for Inspirational Album of the Year) has also been featured in projects such as World Vision's "This Is Our Love," contributing the song "Real Life Offering," and has appeared on TV programs like 100 Huntley Street. His first single "You Always Know" has also had great success on the radio being picked up on stations in Canada, US, Australia, India, and Africa.

Brad is also a Compassion Ambassador Artist, partnering with Compassion to bring children out of poverty into health and wholeness in every area of their life.

Growing up in Waterloo, Brad always had an integral relationship with God and the church. He regularly attended church, youth groups, and camps, all throughout his formative years. Ever since he was 14, he had been involved in worship ministry, with music as a constant element as he performed in youth group worship band, church worship band and during Bible college (he even had a worship band in high school called Unfazed!). Brad has also been involved in children's music ministry working many years as worship leader and assistant director at Ontario Pioneer Camp and creating an album of music for the kids.  The experience infused in Brad a healthy level of spirituality, but also a monumental exposure to worship music.

"I love how worship music gives a way for me to express love for God in a unique way," Brad says. "I find it refocuses me back to what really matters.”

The connection to the church led Brad to work as a music pastor, where he led congregations and groups in worship, with music as a constant companion.

"Two things in my life have always been a part of my life, music and God," Brad says. "Even in my grade 8 class book, when asked about my future aspirations, I wrote 'I want to sing and play the piano for God.'"

Eventually the desire to jump headfirst into a music career took over completely, leading Brad to consider leaving his job as music pastor. As with all life-changing moves, the decision was not easy. He felt a pull to explore new avenues of life and work but there were also moments of serious doubt. However, after many "messages from life, songs and people urging me to step out of the boat, take a risk, and take a leap of faith," he committed to pursuing music full time, driven by his relationship with God.

That relationship is evident in each of Brad's songs. Brad’s music comes from a place of intimacy with God, with each work built around improvisation and then fleshed out with words that reflect lessons learned from knowing God. Prayerful lyrics like “When the guilt gets so heavy, and I just want to hide / Would your Spirit remind me, how you see me inside?” leads the listener to an encounter with God.

“I want to show people that loving and following God is the path to greatest fulfillment and meaning,”  Brad says, “that they would be able to experience the love and grace of God through my music”

Naturally, one of Brad’s favorite quotes from the Bible is a sentiment celebrated in his music.

"Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track. [Proverbs 3:5-6 MSG] "
